With over 92 known minerals and the existence of the world’s second-largest salt mines and significant copper and gold deposits, the sector is on the brink of expansion through increased exploration, foreign investment, and improved infrastructure.
The government is finalizing the National Minerals Harmonisation Framework 2025, designed to attract investment, streamline regulations, and promote public-private partnerships. Notably, the Reko Diq project, the world’s largest untapped copper reserve, is being revived by Barrick Gold with an expected output that could significantly boost exports and job creation. Enhancements in infrastructure, notably through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), are crucial for optimizing logistics and increasing connectivity between mining regions and industrial centers. With plans for refineries and improved transport, Pakistan is set to elevate its mining industry and reduce reliance on raw materials.
